About a month ago, I participated in a cover reveal for A Kind of Death, an upcoming anthology published by Uncommon Universes Press. Today, I’m excited to tell you that my short story Phoenix will be included in the anthology!
About ten years ago, I wrote the first draft of Phoenix, then set it aside. At that point, I had little interest or expectation of publishing, although I attended a critique group to improve my craft. The story stuck in my head, however, and when Uncommon Universes announced their call for submissions, I realized that I had a perfect story idea for it. I don’t even know where the original draft of Phoenix is now, but the story kernel had stuck in my head, so I wrote a new draft and sent it to some fellow authors for feedback.
I felt like this story had great potential, but I also knew that I would have stiff competition, so I was astonished and delighted when Phoenix was accepted.
Autumn has always been my favorite season, and this year I have one more reason to look forward to it. A Kind of Death releases in October!
